Mwea Irrigation Scheme to Create 50,000 jobs

President William Ruto now says over 50,000 jobs will be created after commissioning Mwea Irrigation Scheme

President Ruto attributed the increase in the figure to Saturday’s commissioning of Thiba Dam in Kirinyaga County.

“The Sh8.2 billion project will stabilise irrigation water supply for the Scheme and boost rice production by 86,000 tonnes a year and that it will expand the value of production from Sh10 billion to Sh18 billion a year,” said the Country’s boss.

“Thiba Dam holds huge potential to tackle food crisis as it diminishes our country’s reliance on rain-fed agriculture,” he noted.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua said the Government will keep working towards ensuring Kenya is food sufficient.
