Behind the elegant gates and modern buildings of Kilimani, Nairobi, some residents say there is a side of nightlife that many people rarely see. In several of the area’s luxury apartments, neighbours occasionally talk about unusual late-night activities taking place in short-term rentals booked through Airbnb. Over one weekend, a group of young men arrived at one such furnished apartment accompanied by two women. They carried drinks, speakers, and camera equipment, a scene that quickly drew the attention of a few curious residents in the building.

As the night progressed, the group reportedly grew louder, with music, laughter, and shouting spilling into the hallway. According to neighbours, the gathering seemed less like an ordinary party and more like an attempt to record sensational content on their phones. Some residents said the apartment appeared to have turned into a filming space for behaviour they considered reckless and inappropriate, disturbing the normally quiet environment of the building. By the next morning, the story had already begun circulating among people living in the complex. Several residents expressed concern that such incidents are becoming increasingly common in Kilimani’s short-stay apartments. They are now urging property managers and local authorities to introduce stricter controls on Airbnb rentals, arguing that residential buildings risk turning into party venues where individuals record and share questionable content without considering how it affects the surrounding community.
